Majorie Busby Hopson
Funeral Services for Majorie Busby Hopson, 96, of West Monroe, LA will be held 10:00AM Thursday, September 5, 2013 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Dr. Tom Meachum officiating. Interment will follow in the Crowville Masonic Cemetery.
Majorie Busby Hopson was born on June 10, 1912 in Franklin Parish, LA to the union on Joseph Mark Busby and Jewel Gates Busby. She was the eldest of seven children and the last surviving member of her family. Majorie married John Dudley "Dut" Hopson and lived in Franklin Parish for 48 years where they raised their family, farmed, and did upholstery work. During WWII, she conducted a street car in New Orleans and ferried soldiers. After "Dut" passed away, she moved to West Monroe where she lived with her daughter for 22 years. Majorie resided at the Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Monroe, LA in her last year. She was a member of the Edgewood Baptist Church. Mom was a caring and loving person, and a fine Christian woman. Majorie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, J.D, LaRoy, Royce, and Earl Busby; sisters, Yvonne Ward and Mildred Tulley; husband, "Dut" Hopson; infant son, Dannie Lynn Hopson; and son, Joseph Alvin Hopson.
Majorie is survived by her daughters, Norma Sue Hopson of West Monroe, LA, and Patsy Ann Hopson Meachum and husband Dr. Thomas McKinney Meachum of Easley, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Elouise Roberts Hopson. seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers will be John Meachum, Jared Meachum, Scott Hughes, Shannon Sutton, Steven Dunlap, and Larry Cassiday.
Visitation will be held from 5:00PM until 8:00PM Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to express their heart- felt thanks to the staff of Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care and friendship they showed our mother during her stay. Also, for the care she received the last month of her life from the doctors and staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center and Cornerstone Hospital.
