Loy McDade Nelson, Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Loy McDade Nelson, Sr. age 92 of Ruston, will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Burkhalter Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jerry Hilbun. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Loy Nelson was born September 17, 1920 in Ruston to John Willis Nelson and Rosa Riser Nelson. He died March 17, 2013 also in Ruston. Mr. Nelson graduated from Ruston High School and from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After retiring from dairy farming, he enjoyed traveling and gardening. Mr. Nelson cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. As an active member, of Trinity United Methodist Church, for over 60 years, he attended and taught Sunday School, Bible Studies, and the R.O.M.E.O. program. He was past member of the Administrative Board at Trinity. Community service as a Ruston Rotary Club and Farm Bureau member was a pleasure.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his son: Max Nelson and wife Cindoll of Houston, TX; his daughters: Miranda (Randy) and husband Eddie Parnell of Ruston and Milna and husband Paul Langston of Wichita, KS; grandchildren: Mark Nelson and wife Melonie, Patrick Nelson, Shaun Nelson, Kimberlee Baney, Amy Parnell, April and husband Brent Gregory, Dawn and husband Matt Sauer, David and wife Erica Warren and Meghan and husband Jason Thomas; great grandchildren: Cole, Elise, Landry Nelson, Noah Baney, John Brook, Mason, Kate, Caroline, and Hannah Gregory, Mary, Anna, Lucia, Clara, Addie, and Lily Sauer, A.J. and Audrey Thomas; one sister: Nelwyn Jahncke and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife: Audrey Maxine Turbeville Nelson; two brothers: Jack Nelson and Billy Nelson and one sister: Edna DeFreese.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Owens Memorial Chapel. Memorials in memory of Mr. Nelson may be made to the Nelson Children's Music Endowment (Trinity Methodist Church, 1000 W. Woodward Ave., Ruston, LA 71270) and to the Methodist Children's Home.
