Johnny W. Hines Graveside Services for Johnny W. Hines, 71, of Monroe, LA will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Utica Cemetery in Utica, MS with Rev. Keith McVay officiating. Mr. Hines was born February 19, 1943 and passed away November 19, 2014. He graduated from Utica High School and was inducted into the hall of fame at Belhaven College and Hinds Jr. College for basketball. Johnny was a sports fanatic and loved all sports, especially anything LSU and he loved to watch game shows. He devoted his life to education and coaching, where he taught special education, was a coach and became principal after many years. Mr. Hines taught and coached at Coahoma County High, Utica and Terry High Schools. Then he became principal at Terry and Pearl High Schools. In the 80's, Mr. Hines moved to West Monroe where he coached girls basketball at West Monroe High School. He was the principal at Calhoun High School and West Ouachita High School until his retirement. Papa John was a distinguished educator who dedicated his life to enhancing the lives of his students and athletes, but he was most proud of being a husband, a father and a grandfather. He would truly get a gleem in his eye when talking about the accomplishments of his grandchildren, and made every effort to be at every activity they had. You never saw Papa John that he didn't have a smile on his face, a kind word to be said, or a wonderful story to be told. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Minor and Carrie Hines; his wife, Connie S. Hines; and sisters, Bernice Currie and Flois Hines. Survivors include his children, Dakin Hines and wife, Tashia, Ricky Fava and wife, Julee, and Cindy Fava and; grandchildren, Taylor Hines, Hunter Hines and Pheebie Fava; brother, Minor L. Hines, Jr.; sister, Cornelia Bullock and husband, Ray; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Hunter Hines, Randy Bullock, Lamar Hines, Dwayne Hines, Garet Titus and Ty Titus. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, MS. Evelyn Caraway Hughes Evelyn Caraway Hughes, 93, of Jonesboro a former beautician and receptionist at the Jonesboro Clinic, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Avalon Place Nursing Home in Monroe, LA. Evelyn was born on May 9, 1921 in Jonesboro, LA. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 1 P.M. followed by funeral services at 2 P.M. at the Center Point Baptist Church in Jonesboro, LA with Rev. Joey Bignar officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Mrs. Hughes is survived by two daughters, Mary Jean Caraway Standifer and husband Charles of Monroe, LA and Shirley Caraway Clark and husband Jim of Maurice, LA; one brother, Orvin Maxwell and wife Una of Jonesboro, LA; three grandchildren, Stacey Roberts and husband Chris, Chip Clark and wife Kaysha, and Scott Clark and wife Roxanne; seven great grandchildren, Chandler, Haley, and Hannah Roberts, Canon, Jacob, Ava, and Molli Clark. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Mary Jane Maxwell, two husbands, Girden Caraway and Victor Hughes, and one brother, Elwin Maxwell. Pallbearers will be Chip Clark, Scott Clark, Chris Roberts, Travis Shurling, Jerry Maxwell, and Reggie Maxwell. Evelyn Hughes was a vibrant woman who was dedicated to her church and family. She was so proud of her family, especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Mrs. Hughes made numerous new friends during her stay at Avalon Place and treasured their visits. She looked forward to Sunday evening church services conducted by John Dowd. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Center Point Baptist Church, 4360 Hwy 4, Jonesboro, LA 71251.
