Amanda Merrill Reynolds
Amanda Merrill Reynolds, 80 of Monroe, La., passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on June 22, 1932 in Natchez, Mississippi and was adopted by Frederic Brettell Merrill and Nora Alder Merrill on Dec. 19, 1933. She is survived by her three children: Charles R. Reynolds and spouse Elizabeth of Neoga, Ill., William F. Reynolds and spouse Jennifer of Charleston, SC, and Amanda Regan of Lake Oswego, Or; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her path to becoming a Nursing Instructor and Educator start when she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern State University in 1954. In 1972 she became a full time nursing instructor in Bossier City, La. and later earned her Master's in Nursing from Northwestern in 1975 (while raising her three children). Her passion for nursing and education lead her to join Northeastern State University's School of Nursing in Monroe, La. in 1978. These passions finally lead her to becoming a founding member of and assisting with the establishment of the School of Nursing at Grambling State University. She retired from Grambling in the spring of 2012. Throughout her life, she touched tens of thousands of students and fellow educators. She inspired all around her to become the most they can be while treating everyone with love and respect.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
