Funeral services for Amelia Parham "Amy" Johnston, 50, of Sterlington, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 10, 2014, at North Monroe Baptist Church with Dr. Alan Miller, Bro. David Shirley, and Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Prewitt Cemetery, Mangham, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mrs. Johnston passed away Friday, February 07, 2014, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center. Amy was a wonderfully devoted wife, mother, and daughter. She raised her sons to solid Christian men and supported her husband in every challenge that life brings with it. Baptized at New Light Baptist Church at the age of thirteen, Amy served her Lord at New Light, Alto Baptist Church, Sterlington Baptist Church, and finally North Monroe Baptist Church in various roles during her life.
Amy graduated from Riverfield Academy in 1981 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology from Northeast Louisiana University in 1984. She then earned her Master's Degree from Northeast in 1989. As a school speech therapist "Miss Amy" always treated her students as she would want someone to treat her own children, and she did.
Playing for many friends' weddings, Amy was a talented flutist and enjoyed music greatly. Here real enjoyment came from being with her family. She was a dedicated supporter of any sports team in which her family was involved…she was always there.
To be such a gentle, loving person with a generous, caring spirit about her, Amy was a strong fighter who persevered and showed tremendous faith, hope, and love throughout her life. She will be missed by everyone.
Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her father, Henry Larry Parham.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Michael Johnston; two sons, Haven Michael Johnston and Gentry Kenneth Johnston, all of Sterlington, LA; mother, Jeanette Parham of Mangham, LA; sister, Rebecca Hunt and husband Jeff of Tampa, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be William Hunt, Austin Hunt, Lee Brown, Larry Hines, Delton Dearman, Ken Barnes, Stuart Hannah, and Lance LaBeff. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny George, Eugene Tarver, Gary Johnston, Sid Hill, Ralph Abraham, Jack Green, and Robert Hannah.
