David James Smith

David James Smith of Calhoun, LA. was born on June 20, 1932 in Rayville, LA. and was called home by his Lord on August 4, 2014 surrounded by family. David is survived by his children, Michael David Smith, Stephen Lloyd Smith, Byron Perry Smith, Lisa Rene Smith-Batchen and husband Jay, Julie Anne Smith Pennington and husband Chris. Siblings, Billy Gene Smith, Gerald Waymon Smith, Wanda Lee Takewell, Bonnie Faye Takewell, Sylvester Smith Jr., and Carolyn Ann Frantom. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Smith and Doris Selena Clay Smith. Brother, Harold Ray Smith. He leaves behind eleven grandchildren and two great grand children, numerous nieces and nephews, and two special dog companions, Sarge and Princess.

David was a sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired as Vice President of Sales and Marketing with Beltone Hearing Aids. He was a very motivated entrepreneur, and very passionate about gardening. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was dearly loved by everyone who knew him.

David chose to have his body donated to the LSU Science Department. He passed away at St. Francis Hospital after a lengthy illness.

We would like to thank all of his doctors, nurses, and caregivers that have treated him with such kindness. A special thank you to the VA Hospital. He had the best of care.

He fought a good fight till the end. A private family memorial has been held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fort Hero Veterans Barracks, PO Box 903 West Monroe, LA. 71294
