Funeral services for Freda Mae Parker Griffith, 95, of Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 11, 2013 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Rev. Bob Clanton will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.

Mrs. Freda Mae Parker Griffith was born May 1, 1917 in Jena, LA and passed away April 4, 2013 at Crestview Manor Healthcare Residence in Waco, TX, with her three daughters at her bedside. She was the daughter of Blanche Tradewell and Eucal Fred Parker, and the step-daughter of Leroy Guyon. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1934 and moved to Monroe with her parents, where she worked for the WPA. She married in 1936, and as the former Mrs. Howard E. Griffith, she helped with the establishment of their businesses, KUZN-AM and KYEA-FM in West Monroe; KTLD-AM in Tallulah; KFAZ-TV, the first TV station in Monroe; and KUZN-TV, now KARD-TV, in West Monroe. She was a member of College Place Baptist Church in Monroe until the family moved to West Monroe in 1961, and she moved her letter to the First Baptist Church of West Monroe. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother with an independent spirit. She loved reading about history and pursued courses at Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe, now ULM. An avid camper, she was a long-time member of the national camping organization, Loners On Wheels, and for 30 years she traveled and tent-and trailer-camped across the southern half of the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Arthur L. Griffith, of Homer, AK, and a brother, Donald R. Guyon of Cherokee Village, AR.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands: Sharon Ann Griffith Turrentine and David of Monroe, Deborah Kay Griffith Smith and John Edward III, of Fitzgerald, GA, and Susan Geraldine Griffith of Waco, TX; two sisters and their husbands: Geraldine Guyon Allmendinger and Milton, and Melba Guyon Ladd and Carlos , all of Deport, TX; seven grandchildren: Frank H. Kirby; Burgundy, Sara, and Arthur Griffith; Erica S. Lewis; John E. Smith, IV and James G. Smith; four great-grandsons: Isaiah Morris, F. Dare Gueydon, Jack W. Smith, and Elias Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: David W. Turrentine, John E. Smith III, John E. Smith IV, James G. Smith, John W. Guyon, and Walker Glenn, III.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
