Frank Wilson Obituary

Frank Woodrow Wilson

Lifelong Bastrop resident Frank Woodrow ("Woody") Wilson passed from this life on July 8, 2013. Funeral services will on Friday, July 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, in Bastrop, Louisiana, where he was a longstanding member. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. immediately prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers are his son-in-law, Rick Revels, his two grandsons, Will and John Revels, Rodney Dew, Larry Friday, and Ralph Allen, his nephew. Honorary pallbearers are E.L. Gladney III, Bill Ferschoff, Bernie Turner, James Bonsall, and James Adams.

Wilson was born on November 29, 1923 to Frank Levi Wilson and wife, Lila Gibbs. After graduating from Bastrop High School, he attended what is now the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Wilson spent his entire life in service to his community, his state, and his country. He proudly served as an officer in the United States Navy until his discharge following the end of World War II. Thereafter, he attended LSU Law School, graduating in 1949.

He returned to Bastrop where he established a successful law practice in which he remained actively engaged until his death. He was honored to serve in the Louisiana Legislature as a state representative. In 1960, he was elected city judge of Bastrop, Louisiana, a position he proudly held for 24 years. In addition to his legal work, he enjoyed real estate development, including the creation of several residential subdivisions in Bastrop, most notably, Space Estates Subdivision located off Cooper Lake Road, where he resided from 1967 until he left this plane.

His community service was not only political. He was a long time member of the local Lion's Club and contributed to its charitable activities. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Bastrop and very active in church affairs his entire life. He loved tennis and travel, and participated in both whenever he could.

Wilson is survived by three daughters, Carole Wilson of Bastrop, Cecille Revels and her husband Rick Revels of Lafayette, and Kathy Wilson of Austin, Texas; and, two grandchildren, Will Revels and wife Christy Fitch of Raleigh, North Carolina, and John Revels of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his nephew, Ralph Allen and wife Linda of Huntsville, Alabama, and his niece, Beverly Allen, of Panama. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of over 60 years, Mary Bradshaw Wilson, his son, Shawn Stephen Wilson, and his sister, Isabel Wilson Allen.

The family wishes to specially thank Dr. Carter Cox for his kind and expert medical service through the years. In addition, the family wishes to acknowledge the many years of devoted, loving and compassionate care given by Carole Wilson to her parents.
