Barbara Hage Obituary

Barbara Sue Doyle Hage

August 10, 1949-June 15, 2016

Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Sue Doyle Hage, 66, of Lake Bruin, Louisiana, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Newellton Union Church with pastors Johnny Wilkins and Larry Foster officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah. Interment will be in the Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton, Louisiana under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Born August 10, 1949, Barbara Sue grew up on Winter Quarters Plantation where many cousins and friends came to visit or stay the summer. Growing up, due to her health issues, she became the poster child for The March of Dimes in 1962. She and her family were active members of the Newellton Union Church. She was an accomplished pianist and vocalist, singing in the church choir for many years.

Following graduation from Newellton High School in 1968, Barbara Sue attended Northeast Louisiana University and graduated from Ayers Business School in Shreveport. She loved her job at the Louisiana State University Extension Service in St. Joseph, where she worked for 25 years. She was a member of the Newellton First Baptist Church where she worked tirelessly with the youth group for many years. She also hosted Monday night Bible study in her home for 16 years.

She was a great cook, beautiful seamstress, avid gardener, and enjoyed one of the most beautiful gardens on Lake Bruin. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known Spina Bifida survivor. Her lifetime of health experiences shaped her unwavering faith in God. She will be remembered as a faithful servant, compassionate encourager, trusted friend and extraordinary woman who was greatly loved.

Barbara Sue is preceded in death by her devoted parents, James and Bea Doyle, and grandparents, Clyde and Gladys Doyle and Ollie Lee and Sadie Barrett. She is survived by her husband, David Hage, her daughter, Susan Hosea and husband, Paul, two grandsons, Christian and Levi, and a dedicated friend, Viola Spencer, who has been with her family for 34 years.

Honoring their cousin as pallbearers will be Alan Doyle, David Doyle, Kenny Doyle, Steve Doyle, Tommy Pilkinton, Jimmy Waddill, Randy Waddill, and Ken Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Newellton Union Church, Newellton First Baptist Church, or Tensas Academy.

" I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
