Doris was born January 22, 1918 in Tyro, Arkansas to Maggie and Ray Watts. During the great depression in 1929, Doris, along with her family and her future husband's family, relocated to Rayville, Louisiana to raise cotton. In 1934 she married her loving husband of 55 years Leon D. Petty. They owned and operated Petty's Crew Lake Grocery for over 10 years while growing fruit and vegetables on their acre of land beside their home. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, and will be buried by his side in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Doris is survived by 5 children, Joyclyn (Ben) Bradford of Scottsboro, Alabama, Betty (Roland) Dye of Fletcher, North Carolina, Danny (Sherry) Petty of Scottsboro, Alabama, Sondra (Gary) Tracy of Mobile, Alabama and Beverly Ray (David) Blythe of Houston, Texas. Doris Petty was loved by 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, and last living sibling, Jean Elmore of Monroe, Louisiana.

In 1992 Doris moved to be near her children in Alabama. She was a resident of Mobil, Alabama and a member of the Cody Road Seventh Day Adventist Church in Mobile, Alabama until she moved to Houston, Texas to live with her daughter in 2011.

Doris was known for her keen sense of humor. She took great pride in "doing the right thing" and teaching her children and grandchildren to live by the same standard. She treasured her family. Some of her happiest moments were when she was making hand stitched quilts, canning, freezing fresh vegetables from her garden and sharing with many neighbors and friends.

She will be missed by numerous family members and friends who understood Doris Watts Petty was one of a kind!
