Eleanor Ruth Jones Polk



A Celebration of Life memorial service for Eleanor Ruth Jones Polk, 96, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 3900 Loop Road, Monroe, LA with Rev. Larry Stafford officiating.

Visitation will precede the service at 1:00 PM.

Mrs. Polk was born February 26, 1916 in Dresden, TN and passed away peacefully February 6, 2013 at her residence. Her body was donated to the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.

Mrs. Polk was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Monroe, and a member of the Warner, Wossman Collins Sunday School class. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky in Library Science and worked at the Ouachita Parish Public Library main branch as a reference librarian.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Aaron C. Polk, Sr., her parents, Dr. and Mrs. John Lloyd Jones, Sr., her brother, Dr. John Lloyd Jones, Jr. and her sister, Mary Jones McRae.

She is survived by four children: Mary Eleanor and her husband, Morris Rabb, of Monroe; Dr. Aaron C. Polk, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Nacogdoches, TX; Jane and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey B. Jeter, of Shreveport, LA; and Lillian and her husband, Jay Swanson, of Medfield, MA.

She was "Grandmother" to twelve grandchildren: Jeffrey Rabb, Baton Rouge, LA, John Rabb, Monroe, LA, and Stewart Rabb, Shreveport, LA; Aaron Christopher Polk, Jonathan Polk and Amy Ashley, all of Nacogdoches, TX; Natalie Mayfield, Alan Jeter and Robert Jeter all of Shreveport, LA; John Swanson, Sarah Swanson, David Swanson, all of Medfield, MA. Grandmother is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

Thank you to her sitters from Personal Homecare Services, especially Dixie Lively and Stacy Parker for making it possible for her to remain in the comforts of her home. We appreciate the care and support from Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Monroe.
