Funeral services for Jerry L. Brown, 68, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, November 6, 2012, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt and Mr. Mark Reed officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 7, 2012, in Providence Cemetery in Jayess, MS.
Mr. Brown passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born and raised in the McComb and Fernwood Area and joined the Fernwood Mississippi National Guard and later enlisted in the Army serving his country proudly for 23 years. After retiring from the army in January 1983, he took Scout Dog Training at Fort Benning, GA. He served two tours in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was awarded the Bronze Star with a "V" for Valor and a Purple Heart for saving his company. His last duty station was at NLU as a rifle team instructor. He then retired and stayed in the Monroe area where he worked for Ouachita Parish School Board. He retired in 2005 as an Assistant Maintenance Supervisor. He loved to fish and hunt; and enjoyed life with his family and friends. He belonged to the Vixion Hunting Lodge and Walker George Masonic Lodge at Swartz.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his son, Darryll Robert Brown, and his parents, Joe William Sr., and Helen Marie Huntley Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carrie Mae Tarver Brown; children Thomas Rushea Brown and wife Claudia, Christina L. Brown Rodgers and husband Teddy, Jerome Q. Brown, Kenney Lewis and wife Gwen; six grandchildren, Justin Daniel Brown, Brianna Christelle Rodgers, Teddy D. Rodgers, III and wife Kelci, Amy Deal and husband Shannon, Robert Carter and wife Erika, Ryan Carter and wife Melissa; six great-grandchildren; brother, Joe William Brown, Jr. and wife Katherine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shannon Deal, J.J. Cumba, Tommy McClain, Todd Jackson, Dale May, T.J. Jackson, Jeffery May, and Scott Joye.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, November 5, 2012, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
