Mildred Sullivan

Funeral services for Mildred Sullivan will be 10:30 am Saturday July 13, 2013 in the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home with Rev. Marion Collier officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Ms. Mildred was born Thursday, June 2, 1927 in Sikes, LA to Mr. Lawrence B. and Mrs. Lula Mae Hatten-Talbert and passed from this life on Monday July 8, 2013 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Soon after Ms. Mildred's birth, her family moved to Swampers where she was taught hard working values and morals. She was baptized at Fish Bayou Baptist Church. Ms. Sullivan graduated from Crowville High School then moved to New Orleans, where she worked for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation. Ms. Mildred moved back to Winnsboro and worked for Winnsboro Drug, then briefly for Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative and the cotton classing office of Winnsboro. During this time she met and married her loving husband, Mr. James A. Sullivan on Valentine's Day 1947. For 33 years, she proudly served Franklin Parish as Deputy Tax Assessor under Mr. Willie Weems and Mr. J. W. Dean. She had an exceptionally close relationship with her family, co-workers and her many cherished friends. She had a deeply caring, delightful, yet humorous personality, and was well remembered by all who met her. Ms. Mildred was a remarkably strong woman who was also a community supporter, avid gardener, skilled fisherman, an accomplished seamstress and "get things done kind of lady". She loved spending time with her family, whether it be at Talbert Farm, the Lake Louis Camp, the J. K. Cowan "Dirt Pit", "Out at the Country" or on the beach at Cancun.

Ms. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters Mrs. Hazel T. Cowan of Walker and Mrs. Grace Hayden of Alexandria.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sherry Ann Martin; granddaughter, Miriam Ruth Martin; great-granddaughter Isabella Hendry Rose Wise; and son in law to be Gabriel Wise all of Shreveport; nieces Dorothy McBride, Ann Williams, Janice McKay, Frankie Kirkwood, Abbie Montgomery, Mary Hayden, Melissa Ardoin, Elizabeth Lavespere, Layla Grace Ardoin and Natasha Dominick; nephews Darwyn Williams, Russell Williams, Wesley Williams, John Hayden and Curtis Baxter, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers include J. W. Dean, Donnie Emfinger, Gene Emfinger, John Hayden, Scott Perkins, James Ross, David Williams and Gabe Wise.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Barbara Henry, James Ross, Agnes Russell, David Williams, and Mary Ann Collier, the Emfinger and Perkins families, the staff of Dr. Combetta and Home Care Resources for their loving care.
