Roy Lee Burgess, Jr.

Funeral services for Roy Lee Burgess, Jr., 87, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 23, 2013, in the chapel at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Rev. Craig West officiating. Interment will follow at Epps Cemetery in Epps, LA.

Mr. Burgess died Friday, December 20, 2013. Mr. Burgess served in the South Pacific during World War II where he at one time guarded the American Embassy where General MacArthur and family resided and also performed occupational duty in Japan. He retired as the owner/operator of the family farm in East Carroll Parish. He was a member of the American Legion and attended First Baptist Church in Monroe.

Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his son, Gilbert Burgess; father, Roy Burgess, Sr.; mother, Ona Burgess; and brothers, J.M. and Edward Burgess.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Burgess; sons, Kenny Burgess and wife Elva, Gawan Burgess and wife Sherrie, Jeffrey Burgess and wife Donna; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Todd Burgess, Barry Burgess, Troy Burgess, Chad Burgess, Scott Burgess, and Rance Greer. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy James and Bob Finch.

Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time Monday, at the funeral home.
