Funeral services for Medra Johnston Carbone, 90, of Shreveport, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 2, 2014 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road with Rev. Tom Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carbone was preceded in death by her husband Matthew Joseph "Monty" Carbone; her parents, Luther L. and Sarah Jane Johnston; two sisters, Una J. Nichols and Mavis J. Penn; five brothers, Charles Rayford Johnston, Clarence Johnston, Elton Johnston, L.V. Johnston, and R.L. Johnston; and nephews, Jimmy Johnston and Michael Johnston Penn.

Mrs. Carbone passed away quietly Monday, April 28, 2014, at Glen Retirement Village in Shreveport. She was born June 7, 1923 in Sikes, Louisiana. After graduating from Sikes High School in 1939, she completed nurses training in New Orleans and Monroe. She was employed by Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport, St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, and then by Dr. Henry Guerriero in his private practice. Mrs. Carbone worked as a nurse up until her marriage to her beloved husband Monty. Scottie proved to be a valuable asset in the operation of their business, Louisiana Machinery Co. They resided in Monroe and after retirement, maintained a dual residence in southern Florida. In April 2005, she relocated to the Glen Retirement Village in Shreveport where she enjoyed the company of many friends. Although her interests were many, her true love was her extended family. Through her generosity each of them received a gift every Christmas and many of them were assured a college education. She and Monty were members of the Bayou Desiard Country Club and Coral Ridge Golf Club where she and Monty enjoyed playing golf year round.

Survivors include two nieces Joy Lynn Porter, Jamie Biedenharn; eight nephews Billy Johnston, Clifford Johnston, Glenn Edward Johnston, Rayford Johnston, Richard Johnston, Roger Johnston, Chuck Penn, and Joey Johnston; and a number of great nieces and nephews.

Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday prior to the service.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to her caregivers Dr. Craig Miller, Clara Cole, Jennifer Gilyard, Michelle Hamilton, Myiesha Gilyard; and to the staff and nurses of The Glen Retirement Village.

Memorials may be made to Louisiana Baptist Children's home or Shriner's Hospital for Children.
