James William Johnson, Sr.



Family and friends will gather at 10:00 AM Monday, July 18, 2011 at First Presbyterian to celebrate the life of James William Johnson, Sr. Jimmy was 64 years old. Reverend David Roberts will officiate under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe. Jimmy was born in Monroe September 7, 1946. Jimmy was a devoted son, wonderful dad, friend, and the best "Pepaw Pepaw" Jack Wesley could ask for.

Jimmy will be remembered for many things: his kindness, positive attitude, bright smile, love of baseball, and Neville Tigers, and his heart of gold.

He is preceded in death by his father, Julius Monroe Johnson.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Jane Bain Johnson, his son, James William Johnson, Jr., his daughter, Jennifer Johnson Keith, her husband Wes, and his grandson Jack Wesley Keith.

Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Monroe, having attended Monroe City Schools, graduating from Neville and the University of Louisiana of Monroe with a B.A. in Business Management. At ULM he was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. Jimmy was a Specialist 5 in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1968-1970. He was a full time residential Realtor for 34 years, having obtained the CRB designation, the highest residential education standard. He was a Life Member of the John Rea Realty Winner's Circle. His industry activities include serving on the local board of Realtors in every capacity including President. His community activities include being Past President of Monroe Youth Baseball Association, Past President of the Neville Alumni Association, Neville Tigers Athletic Association Board Member, Neville Alumni of the Year, ULM Alumni Association, ULM Baseball Diamond Club, ULM Athletic Foundation and friends of Black Bayou. Jimmy was a member of Potluck Hunting Club along with his late father, Sonny, and son, Jay. He kept an impressive hunting log with incredible journaling details.

Serving as pallbearers are Joe Farr, Dick Finley, Ron Factor, Bobby Hawkins, John Rea, and Ronnie Shelby.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Potluck Hunting Club, Bruce Hanks, Alex Hayward, Mike McGee, Owen Moses, Larry Mullins, Bob Rowan, Malcolm Smith, Mike Stephens, Rodney Traweek, and Dr. Mike Zambie.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Services will be Monday at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, Stubbs Ave, Monroe. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monroe Youth Baseball, Neville Alumni and Friends Association, or First Presbyterian Church of Monroe.

A heartfelt thank you to Ronnie Shelby for a lifetime of friendship. Jimmy will be missed by so many, but will never be forgotten.
