Mary Edith Thurmon Freudendorf

Mary Edith Thurmon Freudendorf, born February 9, 1917, passed peaceably to meet her Lord on October 4, 2012 in Fort Walton Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Chester M. Freudendorf; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. John W. Thurmon of Ruston, and her brothers, Lt. John W. Thurmon, Jr. and William Cann Thurmon.

After graduating from Louisiana Tech in 1936 with a B S in Home Economics, she taught in several schools around the state. She became a military wife upon Chet's graduation from West Point in 1940. For the next 30 years until retirement in Monroe, LA in 1970, Mary Edith's Southern upbringing graced many locations around the world: California, Japan, Georgia, Maryland, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Her demeanor, social style and hospitality was evident wherever they lived. All the family was made aware of the proper way to do things.

Her belief in God was paramount in her life and was imparted to all the family through letters and conversations. She served God through her love of music by always singing in the choir and serving in many church and community groups: Kappa Delta, Red Cross, PEO, Colonial Dames, DAR, Culture Guild of Ruston and many other cultural organizations.

She and her three daughters were always in the height of fashion due to Mary Edith's incredible sewing ability. Every family member has numerous examples of her beautiful needlework.

Mary Edith is survived by three daughters, Mary Anne Kramer of San Antonio, TX, Edith Helen Smith of Shalimar, FL and Carol F. Giusto of Virginia Beach, VA. Her family also includes 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews

including William Cann Thurmon, Jr. of Winnfield, LA.

She will be dearly missed and her family won't forget her lessons and the love of family she always imparted.

Visitation will be at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

A graveside service will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston on October 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
