Dr. T. Eugene Holtzclaw

Funeral Services for Dr. T. Eugene Holtzclaw, 91, of Rayville, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Rayville United Methodist Church in Rayville, LA with Rev. Darrell Tate officiating. Interment will follow in Rayville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.

Dr. T. Eugene Holtzclaw passed away January 15, 2014 in Monroe, LA. He was a member of Rayville United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 40 years. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with his Bachelor's Degree and later received his Doctorate from University of Arkansas. Gene served in WWII in the US Coast Guard and was a member and past president of the Monroe Kiwanis Club. Dr. Holtzclaw served as supervisor of instruction for Richland Parish School System from 1950-1958 before becoming a professor in the College of Education at University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he served as the Dean of Education for many years. He restored A-Model cars and collected parts for those cars, was a collector of visible gasoline pumps and loved going to car swap meets. Gene loved to fish on their property on Lake St. John.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Anna Holtzclaw; granddaughters, Ashley and Allison Holtzclaw; sisters-in-law, Leree Holtzclaw and Barbara Holtzclaw; nephews, Tommy Holtzclaw and wife, Stacy, Roger Holtzclaw and wife, Allison and Bobby Calvert and wife, Hazel; nieces, Gwen Rankin and Betty Calvert Cook and husband, Tim; and several great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Blackwell, Billy Stodgill, Pete Mulhern, Langston Yancey, Bibb Franklin and Carlton Clark.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until Service Time on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Rayville United Methodist Church in Rayville, LA.

I had the honor of being part of his care at StoneyBrook everyone at StoneyBrook loved "Doc" he was a precious man with a big "sweet tooth". Will miss him greatly.
