Irene R. Durol

Irene R. Durol, 84, of North Haven, entered into eternal rest on July 9, 2013, surrounded by her daughters after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late Joseph A Durol.

Irene was born on Aug. 26, 1928 in Southington, daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Zalenski. She and her husband were the co-founders of the Durol Company, an aerospace company, located in Hamden.

Irene leaves her three daughters Cynthia (Alfred) Civitello of Hamden, Joyce Durol (Robert) Folbrecht of Windsor, Colo. and Carol (Charles) Newman of North Haven. She also leaves her grandchildren, Cheryl (Jonathan) Carreiro, Joseph (Nicole) Civitello, Paul (Danielle) Newman, Michael Newman, Carey Folbrecht, Nathan Folbrecht and her great-grandchildren Ava Civitello and Jordan Newman who brought her so much joy. Irene was predeceased by two brothers, Theodore Zalenski and Raymond (Chip) Zalenski. Besides her family, Irene leaves her godchild Lorraine Zuwallack, many nieces and nephews and loyal employees of the Durol Company.

Irene was a member of the Sacred Heart Academy Mother's Club for over 10 years and served as president of the executive board. She was member of the Auxiliary of the Hospital of St Raphael's and volunteered her time at the hospital as well as the former Bentley Garden Nursing Home in West Haven. She was named to the Advisory Board of Colonial Bank in Hamden in 1986. Irene loved to travel, especially to Colorado and Las Vegas, and went on many cruises with her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vanessa Pomarico APRN and Dr. Christin Knowlton for the comfort and excellent care they provided her during her illness. Irene was a wonderful, caring, and generous, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Services were held July 15, 2013 from the North Haven Funeral Home, North Haven, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Barnabas Church. Interment followed in All Saints Cemetery.
