OLD SAYBROOK - William "Bill" Murdy Jr., husband of Linda (Emig) Murdy, died of a traumatic brain injury on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was surrounded by his family
Born in Meriden on Nov. 2, 1963, he was the son of William D. and Linda (Betts) Murdy Sr. Bill grew up in Meriden and attended Maloney High School, graduating in 1982. He earned the Eagle Scout award as a senior in high school from Troop 10 in Meriden, and a degree in finance from Southern Connecticut State University. An entrepreneur, Mr. Murdy led a business focusing on historic restoration serving the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. He was active in the Old Saybrook community, quick to help those in need and supporting the Boy Scout Troop 51. Bill loved walking, hiking, fishing and the Boston Red Sox. All who knew Bill remember his easy smile, ability to make them feel welcome and his larger than life personality.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his children, Benjamin, Bethany and Samuel, of Old Saybrook; father, William D. Murdy Sr., of Naples, Fla.; brother, David D. Murdy and his wife, Carmella, of Meriden; brother, James J. Murdy and his wife, Claude, of Plantsville; and a plethora of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rich and Judy Emig, of Elwood City, Pa.; his biological mother, Elizabeth Brandl, and his brother, Richard Brandl, both of Meriden. He was predeceased by his mother, Linda, and his son, Richard William Murdy, both of Meriden.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450, on Tuesday, June 12, from 4 to 8 p.m.
