WALLINGFORD - Joseph F. Pernice, 97, of Wallingford, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2014 at the Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford. He was the husband of the late Marie E. Remillard Pernice.

Joseph was born in Long Island, N.Y., on July 3, 1917, son of the late Frank and Marie Scarpulla Pernice. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during World War II; had worked as a photographer for the former Walkers Studio; and later was a census taker for the U.S. government until his retirement.

He was the step-father of Robert E. Johnsey Sr., and his wife, Sandy; the step-grandfather of Jodi Wilson and Steven and Michael Kunde; and the great-grandfather of Rachel and A.J. Johnsey and Gabriella and Jackson Kunde. He was predeceased by his grandson, Robert E. Johnsey Jr.; and a sister, Marie Halstead.

His funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial followed in St. Barnabas Church, North Haven, at 9:30 a.m. Interment with full military honors followed in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Charitable Foundation, 22 Masonic Ave., Wallingford, CT 06492.
