Doan, Rev. Daniel H.

Rev. Daniel H. Doan, age 86, of Berlin, went peacefully into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday December 10, 2013, at the Theda-Clark Medical Center of Neenah.

He was born on August 28, 1927 in Redgranite, WI, the son of Frank and Louise (Eisner) Doan.

He married Darlene (Dolly) Johnson on July 16, 1949, in Poygan, WI.

They farmed at Borth, WI, for many years while he drove school bus and owned a milk route until 1962. He then went to work for the State of Wisconsin UW-Oshkosh where he became a steamfitter until 1982. During his later time at UW Oshkosh, he completed his GED and also his general education classes.

In the summer of 1982 after his youngest child completed High School, Dan and Darlene moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana to attend Concordia Theological Seminary to study to become an Ordained Minister in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Upon completion of his studies, Dan was ordained on July 28, 1985.

His first calling was to serve as Pastor at Hickory Grove in Boscobel, WI. He also later served at Irma and Harshaw, WI. Dan and Darlene retired in 1992 to Berlin, WI. Shortly after retiring he served as the healing Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Omro, WI, until 1994. Since then he has remained very active in his Church filling-in and assisting wherever he could. During his retirement he preached at 52 different churches. He is a member of Saint John Lutheran Church of Berlin where he also assisted Pastor Lundquist.

He loved everyone and was helpful to all those in need; a true example of Christian living and an inspiration to those around him. He was a loving, wonderful, and thoughtful, Husband, Father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He enjoyed spending summers with his family camping at Camp LuWisoMo, WI and across the United States. He also enjoyed playing baseball at Poygan WI; farming and spending time outdoors deer hunting. He was an avid Brewer and Packer fan.

He is survived by his beloved wife Darlene Doan of 64 years of marriage; his four children, Denise (Bob) Johnson of Oshkosh, WI; Darrell Doan of Cameron, WI; Doreen Doan of Apple Valley, MN; and Dave (Darci) Doan of Berlin, WI. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Amy (Ken) Graham, Bob Johnson, and Devan (Ryan) Curley and two great-grandchildren, Kenny Graham and baby Curley due March 2014, also numerous nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law, Vern Johnson, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Frank, William and Eugene.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on 2 South at Theda-Clark Hospital who were extremely compassionate and caring and also to Pastor Roger Erdman, Pastor Bryan Lundquist and the Berlin E.M.S.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Saint John Lutheran Church of Berlin with the Pastor Bryan Lundquist officiating and burial will be on Monday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in the Town of Poygan.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family and pay their respects to Pastor Doan on Saturday, December 14, 2013, from 3 to 7 P.M. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of downtown Berlin and again on Sunday at the Saint John Lutheran Church of Berlin one hour prior to the service or from 2 to 3 p.m.

Memorials in memory of Pastor Doan will go toward scholarships for "Second Career Pastoral Ministry Students"
