Nordhaus, Doris

Doris L. Nordhaus, nee Nelson, passed away at Evergreen in Oshkosh on Sunday, June 1, 2014. She was born in the Town of Omro on September 1, 1922, the daughter of the late James and Birdie (Raasch) Nelson. On April 18, 1942 she married Philip Nordhaus at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Doris worked at JC Penney for 20 years as a shoe sales associate. She was very active at Christ Lutheran Church. Doris was known to be a wonderful homemaker, avid dancer, bowler, Bingo participant, fisherwoman, and swimmer. She will be remembered for her volunteering, which included: the Senior Center, Food Pantry, Bethel Home, and many other associations.

Doris is survived by her children: Gary (Kathleen) Nordhaus, James (Patty) Nordhaus, and Daniel (Delynn) Nordhaus; grandchildren: Kimberlee Holleyman, Bradley (Tina) Nordhaus, Annemarie (Jeremy) Birschbach, Michael Nordhaus, Terri (Tristan) Shepherd, and Tori (Ryne Lodl) Nordhaus; great-grandchildren: Coleton Holleyman, Anna and Emily Nordhaus, Hannah and Kyla Birschbach, and Max and Tessa Shepherd; sisters-in-law: Eileen Nelson, Joyce (William) Smerz, and Susan Nordhaus; cousin, Jeanette Cummings; brother-in-law, Clifford Nordhaus; great friend, Mary Lou Finn; numerous nieces and nephews; and special godchild, Deb Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; her parents; son, Richard Nordhaus; brothers: Howard (Evelyn) Nelson and Edgar Nelson; grandson-in-law, Tom Holleyman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Hilda Nordhaus, Dorothy (Todd) Sherry, Robert Nordhaus, and Margie (Ted) Pittelkow; and very special friend, Pete Kowalski.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 222 Church Ave., Oshkosh, with Rev. Jennifer Czarnota officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Oshkosh.

The family extends a special thank you to the Evergreen staff for the years of comfort and care, especially: Betty, Theresa, Jo Ann, Renee, Patti, Laura, Michelle, and driver/Dave.
