Geraldine Rose Meyer

Meyer, Geraldine Rose

Geraldine Rose Meyer, age 89 of Oshkosh, passed away on Monday morning, April 14, 2014 at Evergreen Retirement Community. "Gerry" was born in Oshkosh on July 22, 1924, the only child of Edgar and Frances (Utecht) Meyer, a prominent lifetime jeweler. She went to St. John's Elementary School and graduated from Oshkosh High School. Her teaching degree was achieved at Oshkosh Teacher's College in 1946 and she accepted a position with the Neenah School System to begin a teaching position at the Hoover Elementary School. In 1979 she received a federal fellowship to get a Master's Degree in Individually Guided Education. She was one of the process consultants who worked in the program at Taft School in Neenah. She retired in June 1986 after 40 years if dedication to children and others. Her volunteer activities were gratefully accepted by Mercy Hospital during her spare time from her teenage years as a Candy Striper while attending schools, during her summers and later years after her retirement, helping patients at the new Mercy Medical Center and making the Nursing Profession a very personal and real part of her life. Gerry spent most of her life at Plummer's Point on the lake, moving from Oshkosh when her parents made their permanent home out there. She had many close neighbors who became her friends, in particular; the Seibold's, the Ziebell's, and the Demlers. Her little dogs were her pride and joy throughout her life...and her last one, called "Gemi"...was always "pridefully" described as "she was named after my dad, he was a jeweler, you know?" Her lifetime activities always included her attendance at St. John's and St. Peter's churches and they were always faithfully attended when her health permitted. Within the congregations many of the parishioners knew Gerry as a dear friend. The Twentieth Century Ladies Group was one of her favorite organizations and she continued to belong, even during the years she could no longer attend meetings.

Never marrying and not having children of her own, she always considered the young people of her cousins Donald and Rozalie Utecht, Joyce Lloyd, and Nancy Lankau (deceased) as HER FAMILY. Which included; Renee (Peter) Donner and their family, Richard, Thomas and Douglas Lloyd and their families and Mark Lankau and daughter Elizabeth and Lisa Lankau. Cousins June Pearson, Dorothy Voss, and Suzanne Lannbrecht will be remembering Gerry with love, thinking about the many Meyer events that were held at Plummers Point.

Funeral services for Gerry will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fiss&Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh, with the Rev. Fr. James Jugenheimer officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12 noon until the time of service. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Gerry's family would like to thank the entire staff at Evergreen Retirement Community for the loving considerate care that was shown to our Gerry during this difficult period in her life.
