Janet Johnson

Johnson, Janet M. (Suckow)

Galway - Janet M. Johnson, 69, died Oct. 5, 2012, unexpectedly but peacefully in the house that she designed and enjoyed for two decades. She was born on Jan. 18, 1943, in Oshkosh, Wis., a daughter of the late Rosalie (Miller) and William Suckow. First in her family to graduate from college, she earned her B.A. in Education from the University of Wisconsin and then later earned a Master's Degree in American Studies from Union College. She moved to Schenectady, N.Y., in 1968, with her husband and began teaching English for the Schenectady City School District until her retirement in 1998. Two of the highlights of her career were when she was a Human Relations Consultant for NYSUT and the Coordinator for Cooperative Learning in her school district. While retired, for several years she was a Board member of the Galway Public Library. Jan was dedicated to the education and personal growth development of others. She enjoyed watching sports, gardening, reading, and golfing.

Jan is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie Johnson (Franklin Nichols), Pilot Mountain, N.C.; and Kimberly Lewis (Robert), Burnt Hills, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jenna Nichols and Nicholas Johnson; her dog, Darci; her two sisters, Mary Hejdak (Kenneth) and Gloria Miller, both of Oshkosh, Wis.

Memorial Service Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery Chapel, 1901 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh.
