Verburgt, Jr., John "Jack"

John "Jack" Verburgt, Jr., age 86, of Omro, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center. He was born January 28, 1927, in West Allis, the son of John and Theresa (Smith) Verburgt. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Medic and was also one of the last trained members of the horse Calvary. He married Ruth E. Grevenow in Wautoma on July 24, 1948. Jack was a brick layer by trade and retired after 50 years of service. He enjoyed boating, woodworking, camping and family outings; Jack especially enjoyed spending Labor Day with his family. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Omro.

Jack is loved and will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; children, James & Carolyn (Leitgeb) Verburgt of Omro, Ronald & Peggy (Schnetzer) Verburgt of Wautoma, Patricia & Ronald Rothenbach of Omro and Dianne & Kevin Litton of Omro, 10 grandchildren: Eric Fisher, Nicole (Michael) Bosquez, Michelle (Dan) Lemke, Dina (Jay) Jones, Bryon Litton (Kari Rau), Heather (Matt) Stratton, Shannon Verburgt, Brooke (David) Reimer, Ryan (Katie) Rothenbach, and Jodi Rothenbach, almost 23 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Larschied, June (Richard) Tackes, Marguerite (Richard) Crook; brothers, Daniel (Joann) Verburgt, Donald (Vera) Verburgt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: John & Theresa (Smith) Verburgt, brother & sister in law, Frank & Edith Verburgt, infant brother, James, and brother in law Donald Larschied.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, (TODAY) March 27, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, 720 Jackson Ave., Omro, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Bartholomew officiating. A memorial in his name is being established. Jack will be laid to rest at the Omro Cemetery with full military honors.
