Durkee, Lawrence "Chummy"
Lawrence "Chummy" Durkee, of Oshkosh, surrendered on Sunday, September 22, 2013 after a decade long health battle. At 77 years old Chummy was a medical miracle. Close family often said he had 9 lives just as cats are said to be blessed with. He most definitely did and used each one to bless his family with his presence and continued to live his life to the fullest no matter what his daily health struggles brought him. Chummy was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran and was a legendary cribbage player.
A man of honor, pride and strength is eternally at peace. A loving husband of 52 years, devoted family man and the best Papa a grandchild and great grandchild could ask for. Survivors include his wife Sherry; son, Jay (Sara) Durkee of Oshkosh; daughter, Lorie (David) Riviere of Oshkosh; brothers, Clifford (Marilyn) Durkee of Green Bay, Marden (Joan) Durkee of Ocean City, CA; Howard Durkee of Oshkosh, Harlan (Norma) Durkee of Oshkosh; sister, Belva Goodacre of Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Leona Fleck of Oshkosh, Emily (Jarrett Whitley) Fleck of Oshkosh, Thomas Fleck of Oshkosh, Lance (Heather) Riviere of Eau Claire; one great grandson, Jeremiah Whitley; and a special friends, Bill Nolte and Carol Joubert.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church (110 Church Ave) at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Willadsen officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Wednesday from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Park.
Chummy's family would like to thank all his friends at Auto Authority for the extra held and care they provided.
