Donald W. Bowen, age 91, passed away at Evergreen Manor on Sunday, December 30, 2012. He was born in Oshkosh on December 28, 1921 the son of the late Harry and Elsa (Witzke) Bowen. On November 16, 1943 he married Lorraine Sheets in Jacksonville, FL. Don was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. After serving in WWII Don worked as a warehouseman and later as a salesperson for Milwaukee Cheese Company. In 1964 he became a letter carrier for the U.S. Post office, retiring in 1981. He was an avid golfer, achieving a hole-in-one, and also played tennis. Don will be remembered for his steadfast care of Lorraine and love of his family.
Don is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children: Ted (Karen) Bowen of Oshkosh, Margie (John) Schellpfeffer of Belgium, WI, and Cindy (Bill) Lemke of Oshkosh; grandchildren: Ed (Kari) Bowen, Ann (Mike) Potratz, Brendon (Amy) Schellpfeffer, Kaity (Andy) Olson, Matt (Kris) Lemke, and Carrie (Brian) Chappa; great-grandchildren: Elsie Bowen, Josie and Genna Schellpfeffer, Tristan and Kellen Olson, Kyle, Ryan and Jake Lemke, and Devin Chappa. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bradley (Norma) Bowen and son-in-law, John Schellpfeffer.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 338 N. Eagle St., Oshkosh, with Rev. David F. Pagel officiating. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Garden Place, Evergreen Manor; and to the nursing staff at Aurora Hospital, especially Pat and Patrick; and to the staff at Aurora VNA Hospice for their care and friendship.
