Applebee, Fred

Fred L. Applebee left his home on earth for a far greater one on Wednesday morning, July 25, 2012. He entered into life on March 5, 1921, in Adams Friendship, the son of William and Effie (Green) Applebee. He was raised and educated in Adams County. On March 9, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ferne Wilkenson in Berlin. He had a farm in the Omro area and even kept working there after he went to work for Rockwell International in 1951. He soon found that two jobs was just too much, so quit farming. He worked at Rockwell for thirty years before retiring. He moved to Waukau in 1964, where he kept busy working with the Sea Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was an active member of the Waukau Youth Group, until just a few years ago.

Ferne passed away in August 1967. Together they had raised four children. On June 20, 1970, he was married to Winnie Larsen at the Waukau Methodist Church, which he faithfully attended. Winnie brought eleven children to this marriage, so they had a blended family of fifteen. This made for a lot of fun and noisy get-togethers. They were married for thirty six years before Winnie passed away in March 2006.

Fred always enjoyed wood working and was known for all the rocking horses he built. Both he and Winnie were avid bingo players. They knew where all the games were any night of the week. Friday nights were always special to them, as many of their kids would come over for a fun card game or just a gab fest. Sometimes there was even singing. One of Fred's greatest joys was baking an apple pie for all to enjoy when the cards were put away.

The last four months of his life was spent at Webster Manor in Omro. He was happy there and everyone treated him like he was their own Grandpa. They showed him nothing but love and respect and we are eternally grateful to each and every one of them.

Fred is survived by fifteen children; eight sons and seven daughters, Fred, Jr. (Linda) Applebee, Steve (Lee) Applebee, Chris (Jill) Applebee, Ken (Helen) Larsen, Richard (Sharon) Larsen, Dean (June) Larsen, Inert (Lori) Larsen, Rex (Daryl) Larsen, Kathy Spanbauer (Applebee), Rogene Larsen, Vernita Fink, Laurel (Cully) Franz, Diane Campbell, Linda Treichel and Robin Larsen. He is further survived by thirty eight grandchildren and one hundred forty two great and great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, and all eleven of his siblings, Myrtle, Henry, Royden, Clifford, Basil, William, Donald, Harold, Evelyn, Frank, Leslie, son in laws, Robert Fink, David Campbell and John Spanbauer. What a welcome he received from all of them.

Visitation for Fred will be on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The service will be at Waukau Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service with Reverend Kristen Lowe officiating. Burial will be at Waukau Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Waukau Youth Building.
