John L. Kametler, age 66, of Oshkosh died February 19, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center. John was born in Oshkosh on January 10, 1947, the son of John and Lucille (Schumacher) Kametler. After graduating from Oshkosh West High School, John enlisted in the US Army serving for four years as a cook in Panama. Before retiring John served for 17 years on the Oshkosh police department.
John was loved and will be missed by his wife Carol whom he married in 1989, his brother Ronald (Barb) Kametler of Omro, his sister Joan Nieman of Oshkosh, his children; Melisa (Dan) Kametler of Oshkosh, Jennifer (Nick) Maxwell of Wauwatosa, Ryan Kametler of West Bend; his stepchildren Kristi (Jermaine) Henckel of Oshkosh, and Brett Henckel of Summit Lake. His sisters in law Sharon (Russell) Handy Jr. of Oshkosh, Sandy (Terry) Binder of Oshkosh, Jean (Robert) Smith of Oshkosh, and Cheryl (Dean) Konkel of Tilleda.
John was a proud grandfather to; Alex Hirschberg, Miranda Askins, Morgan, and Kirsten Maxwell, Kailey Weber, Nya and Lily Kametler, Cooper, Alexis, Savannah, and Braydan Henckel, Rieghlee Stevenson, Nyimma Colley, and Kyle, Karson, and Carter Head. John is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Lucille, his brothers Wayne and Dennis Hable, step daughter Allison Henckel, brothers in law; Ted Nieman, and Robert (Rose) Techlow.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Fox Cities Funeral & Cremation Services, 3026 Jackson St. Oshkosh until time of the memorial service at 4:00 PM with Pastor Carl Knitt officiating.
John's family would like to give a special thank you to the Affinity hospice staff for bringing so much joy into his life, as well as the rehab unit at Mercy Medical Center.
