Lenz, John E.

John E. Lenz, age 87, of Oshkosh, formerly of Pickett, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, April 25, 2013 at his residence. John E. Lenz was born on June 8, 1925 in Oshkosh to Charles and Kathryn (Hogan) Lenz. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1943. He married Josephine Quigley on June 28, 1952. John farmed his entire life in the Pickett area. He also enjoyed visiting the family wheat ranch in Chester, Montana. John played first base for the Zion baseball team and was the President of the Winnebagoland Baseball League. He was a member and President of the Omro School Board for twenty years. John also served as the Chairman of the Town of Utica, Director and President of Pickett Cooperative, was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. John received a Certificate of Commendation/Award of Merit from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and was an FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer. John and Jo enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing dartball. John attended the Ice Bowl game of 1967, with his brother-in-law, Boyd, and often reminisced about that experience. He was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to his children and grandchildren. John and Jo were in the audience at many of their plays, recitals and games. John loved having his family gather for holidays and family celebrations.

John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jo; sons, John, Jr. (Kathleen) of Oshkosh, James of Urbana, Illinois, Robert (Cheryl) of Greenwood, Kenneth (Elizabeth) of Eagle, Idaho, Daniel (special friend, Maria) of Oshkosh, William (Diane) of Oshkosh, Douglas (Paula) of Ridgefield, Washington, and David (Ann) of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Brigitte, Jonathan, Timothy, John III (Emily), Annelise (Ben), Natalie, Scott, Bryan ( special friend Alexandra), Jamie (John), Dustin, Skylar, Samia (Kevin), Michael, Michele, Jeffrey, Ashley (fiancé Michael), Sara, Charles, Grace and his great granddaughter, Journey. John is also survived by many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, George; daughter-in-law, Joan and sister-in-law, Irene.

Visitation will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 730 Madison Ave., Omro, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. with Rev.
