Koplitz, Larry

Larry L. Koplitz, age 67, of Oshkosh, died Monday afternoon, May 6, 2013, at Eden Meadows, after a brief illness. Born on October 27, 1945, in Oshkosh, the son of Eldor and Esther (Diestler) Koplitz, Larry married Carol Freund on November 11, 1972, in Fond du Lac.

A graduate of Oshkosh High School Class of 1963, Larry served four years with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. He was employed in Commercial Construction for 40 years with the last 30 years with Fluor Brothers in Oshkosh before retiring in 2000. Larry was a true family man with time spent with children and grandchildren being very important. He enjoyed baseball, golf, basketball, Packers, Brewers, and traveling to Alaska with Carol. In high school Larry played the position of halfback and in one game he rushed for 246 yards. He was a real "jokester" who always was quick on the draw with a story or joke to amuse those around him. He played on the slow pitch team for Pinky's and the fast pitch team for Tommy's Angels. He was honored by being inducted into the Oshkosh Rec Department Softball Hall of Fame in 2004. Of all of Larry's activities, fishing was his passion. Many days you could find Larry out on the water at first light. Of course, with fish, there are fish fries and Larry could fry with the best of them, an art that he was passing down to his grandkids. He maintained his membership in Four Lakes Fishing Club.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 40 years, Carol Koplitz; three daughters, Melissa (Troy) Ehnert, Tracy (Nick) Klingbeil, and Lisa (Brad) Curtis; four grandchildren, Liberty, Skylar, Jacob, and Zeva; a brother, Ken (Joan) Koplitz; a sister, Shirley (Dave) Treleven; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Koplitz and Karen Koplitz; mother-in-law, Sedona Freund; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Loretta (Tony) Koenigs, Jim (Judy) Freund, Kathy Hanke, and Roger (Cindy) Freund; nieces, nephews, and many close friends. Preceding Larry in death are his parents, two brothers, Marvin and Howard, father-in-law, Herbert Freund, and a brother-in-law, Leo Hanke.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street, with Reverend Timothy Greenwald officiating. Interment will be in Ellenwood Cemetery following the service. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Larry's memory.

A special thank you to the Staff at St. Luke's Hospital, Dr. Lake and the Dialysis Staff at Aurora Hospital, Dr. Lewandowski and Staff of 2nd Floor at Aurora Hospital, Staff at Eden Meadows, Aurora Hospice Staff, and the Staff of Seefeld Funeral Chapels for the loving care given to Larry while he was with them.
