Laura Belot Obituary
Belot, Laura M.

Laura M. Belot, of Neenah, age 99, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family following a brief illness on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. She was born January 15, 1914 in Oshkosh, daughter of the late Joseph Anton and Bertha (Hoffmann) Tavernie.

She married Chester Belot and he preceded her in death in 1971. She moved to Neenah in 1974.

Laura was a wonderful homemaker who loved to cook and sew. She was known for her cookies. Laura spent most of her early married years raising her four children but was also involved in the family restaurant business in Oshkosh for more than 25 years until the mid-1960's. After her husband Chester passed away and the restaurant was sold, she moved to Neenah was cared for the children of working moms in her home for many years. Laura was a woman of honesty, integrity and caring who passed along these values in every word she spoke and action she took. She loved to travel, especially with her daughter, Paula, taking trips to Disney World, New York, Branson, Missouri, Hawaii, and many cruises to Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean Ocean and through the Panama Canal. She was an excellent cook and seamstress always willing and able to share her talents with family. She enjoyed reading mystery novels and for as long as anyone can recall she read a book a week and did a daily crossword puzzle. She was very independent and drove her car and maintained her own home well past her 98th birthday. But her greatest joy came from the time when she would visit or vacation with her family. She loved her time at the family cottage in Minocqua, or visiting her children in Neenah, Kohler, or Belmont, California. She dearly loved and cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her four children: Jerold (Mary Jane) Belot, Paula Kitz, Thomas (Diane) Belot, Robert (Randi) Belot; nine grandchildren: Peter (Lori) Belot, David (Kay) Belot, Paul (Amy) Belot, Jeffrey Kitz, Michael (Lyn) Kitz, Melissa (Jeff) Jacobs, Michael (Katie) Belot, Erin (Jeremy) Ott, Brian Belot; nine great-grandchildren: Alicia, Andrew, Austin, Aiden, Tori, Michelle, Emily, Oliver and Theodore; and a sister, Shirley Reiter; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Laura was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton; four sisters: Leona Corpian, Esther McCarthy, Marcella Day and Vera Tavernie; and a son-in-law, David Kitz.

Laura and her husband were members of St. Mary Parish in Oshkosh and she became a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah when she moved there in 1974.

In accordance with her wishes a private family Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the church followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manawa, WI. In lieu of flowers a memorial in her honor is being established for St. Margaret Mary Parish.
