Linger, Lois Lorraine
Lois Lorraine Linger, 88, of Markesan passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born October 1, 1924 to Alvin and Lenora (Schwandt) Lueptow in Kingston, WI. She grew up on a farm near Kingston and attended a rural school that had no electricity, running water, or central heat. One teacher taught all eight grades. In 1941, she graduated from Markesan High School and went on to Oshkosh State Teachers College, majoring in Elementary Education. In 1945 she received a Bachelor of Science Degree and taught in Sheboygan, Beloit, and Oshkosh. On June 28th, 1947 she married Forrest Linger of Oshkosh at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Markesan. They farmed together for 46 years. Lois spent many hours studying the Bible and reading Bible commentaries. She taught a girls high school Sunday School class for 15 years. Lois enjoyed reading, word puzzles and bird watching, especially humming birds coming to the feeder in the summer. Her grandchildren will remember her for her chocolate chip cookies.
Lois is survived by four children, Stephen Linger of Markesan, Stuart (Nancy) Linger of Markesan, Janet Linger of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Jeff (Lori) Linger of Eldorado; grandchildren, Stefanie (Frank) Wade, Nicole Linger, Kimberly Linger (fiancé Blaine Hornes), Karie Linger, and Bryan Linger; sisters, Helene Jensen of Beaver Dam and Maxine Johnson of Minneapolis, MN. Lois is further survived by nephews, Peter, David, Mark and Paul. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Jason Linger and husband of 65 years, Forrest, who passed away on December 20th, 2012.
Visitation in honor of Forrest and Lois will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013, from 5 - 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.
Private family inurnment will take place at Markesan Memorial Cemetery in Markesan with Reverend Gary Zacharias officiating. A memorial is being established.
