Immoos, Sister M. Margrit

In Memory

(also known as

Sister Pio)

July 7, 1933 -

October 21, 2013

Sister M. Margrit Immoos died unexpectedly at Mercy Medical Center on October 21, 2013. She was born on July 7, 1933 in Morschach, Switzerland, to parents Anton and Margaret Ehrler- Immoos. She was given the name Margarita Katarina. Margarita was one of four children. One brother died at 4 months old, another brother died two years ago. She has one sister, Marie Gisler and a nephew, Hermi Gisler in Switzerland.

Margarita entered the religious community of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother on May 16, 1950, in Rome, Italy. She came to the United States in 1951, and resided at the Mother of Sorrows Motherhouse in Milwaukee, WI. Margarita entered the novitiate on August 12, 1951 and was given the name Mary Pio. She professed First Vows on August 12, 1953 and her Final Vows on August 12, 1958. At a later time Sister Pio changed her name back to a form of Margarita and then was known as Sister Margrit.

She celebrated her Silver Jubilee on December 12, 1978; her Golden Jubilee on September 17, 2000; and her 60th Jubilee this year on August 11th. The following month, September 7th, she was so happy to celebrate again at St. Raphael Church with all the church family whom she cherished. Her nephew, Hermi Immoos and 3 friends from Switzerland were there to celebrate with her.

Sister Margrit was so involved with the parish and loved her ministry. Sister was very generous with her time and any resources that she had.

Prior to working at St. Raphael's, she was very instrumental in getting Franciscan Courts up and running after the building had been completed in 1989. Sister Margrit helped move the retired sisters from our Milwaukee motherhouse to their newly built home at Franciscan Courts. She was appointed as the Administrator and oversaw the entire facility as well as the needs of the Sisters.

Sister Margrit had many roles in her lifetime. She became a US citizen in 1957 in Omaha, NE. In Omaha, she went to Creighton University to become a Pharmacist. From there she was sent to Marshfield, WI to work in the pharmacy at St. Joseph Hospital from 1961- 1968. In 1968 she was sent to Oshkosh, WI to work in Administration at the Marian Home.

Sister later went into nurses training at Cone Investor Reserve School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH. Sister Margrit also worked at Mercy Medical Center in Spiritual Services in Oshkosh. Later she worked as a Coordinator for the Hospice Program for Neenah and Menasha VNA (Visiting Nurses Association). She also worked as Hospice Outpatient Program Coordinator at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield, WI until she was appointed Administrator of SSM Franciscan Courts in 1989 which had been built for our retired sisters.

Sister Margrit will be greatly missed by the Sisters, staff at Franciscan Courts, by the entire staff at St. Raphael Church and parishioners, as well as everyone who knew her, and those she served.

Doug LaCaptain as celebrant. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery following the luncheon at the church.
