Wara, Jr., William E. "H.D"
William E. "H.D." Wara Jr. age 66 of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. He was born on April 24, 1946 in Oshkosh, a son of the late William Edward and Florence (Schettl) Wara Sr. Bill served his country in the US Army in the 4th Infantry, 1st Division in Vietnam and recieved the Purple Heart. He married the former Elizabeth Blackwell on July 16, 1976, she preceded him in death on October 15, 2005. Bill was a member of the American Legion and the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club and was known as "H.D." in the club. He was known for helping with various charity events for the Children's Hospital at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center and he was the treasurer of Gray Beard Productions. Bill had worked for both the former Leach Co. and Oshkosh Tool.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by two sons, William E. (Angela) Wara III and Robert J. "RJ" Wara, both of Oshkosh; three daughters, Christine Koehler of Florida, Teresa (Mike) Doemel and Melissa (Erik) Barlow, both of Oshkosh; three brothers, Thomas J. (Lori) Berndt, Jeffrey L. (Deb) Berndt and David B. Berndt, all of Oshkosh; three sisters, Katherine (Dan) Wanner, Patricia (Don) Wolff and Jodie (John) Ziemer, all of Oshkosh; seventeen grandchildren, Brock, Avery, Tatum, Jenna, Lindsey, Amelia, Andrew, Ella, Erika, Thomas, Abby, Billy IV, Karma, Tanner, Matt, Mike and Katie; a special god-daughter, Brooke Rahmlow; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and many dear friends, and his good friend, Doug Kienast. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert M. and Victor Berndt; his step-mother, Margurette Wara.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bill on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Raphael Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh, with the Rev. Fr. Doug LeCaptain as celebrant. Burial will follow with full military honors in Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held for the Wara family on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave. and also again at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. "Mom and Dad are now dancing together again!"
