William George Schettle Jr. 71, Appleton

Bill departed this world on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was born May 13, 1942 to the late William G. and Helen (Behling) Schettle Sr. in Oshkosh. He attended school there and graduated in 1960 followed by two years at the University of Oshkosh. As a teen he joined his father in the family business, and spent most of his working life in furniture sales. He finished his career in customer service. On June 30, 1979 he married Susan Hughes and inherited three stepchildren. His focus was on providing a home for them and instilling morals and values. He was completely devoted to his home and family. Some of his greatest pleasures were woodworking, carving both decorative and working duck decoys. He looked forward to duck hunting season, deer hunting and marathon fishing sessions. Bill loved animals, and the unconditional, mutual love of the family dogs brought him much joy and comfort.

He is survived by his wife Susan, of 35 years: his three stepchildren: Taisha (David) Weber, Andover, MA; Brett Hughes (special friend, Jodi Huth), Greenville, WI and Tania Hughes (special friend, Dale Meisner), Chicago, IL; 5 grandchildren: Alex and Alyssa Hughes, Michael, Adam and Jenna Weber. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Mike) Miller, Menominee Falls, WI; two brothers: Ronald Schettle, Oshkosh and Randall (Becky) Schettle, Green Bay.

Private family services will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, should friends desire, memorials may be sent to the funeral chapel .
