Georgia Buttke Obituary
Buttke, Georgia J.

Georgia J. Buttke, 65, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Georgia was born January 25, 1949, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Gordon and Hazel (Bathke) Buttke.

Georgia graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1967 and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where she received her Bachelor of Education degree in 1971.

Georgia began teaching in the Oshkosh Area School District in 1971. She started with home bound education then taught English at Oshkosh West High School before finding her passion teaching driver education in the Oshkosh Area School district for 35 years. She enjoyed all her students over the years and was lucky to work with an incredible staff. Georgia, along with her colleague, Mike McGinley, co-authored a driver education textbook, Safe Driving, for special needs students.

Georgia was a member of the Winnebago County Safety Commission for many years including serving as the chairperson of the commission. She also spent many years as an advisor for the Students Against Drunk Drivers program at Oshkosh West, which presented opportunities for hundreds of students to participate in various safety projects. She also served as an adult volunteer for ten years for the Safe Rides program.

A fan of all athletic events, Georgia enjoyed selling tickets at high school athletic events, which she did for more than 30 years. She was also a member of the Oshkosh West Athletic Wall of Fame Committee since its inception. In her free time she enjoyed reading and baking, especially her Christmas breads and treats.

Georgia is survived by her two nephews, Daniel (Chelsea) Buttke and Ryan Buttke, both of Oshkosh; four great-nephews and nieces, Jackson, Liam, Reagan, and Zoe Buttke; her uncle, Gilbert Bathke; aunt, Arleine Bathke; special cousin, Jeanne Goggins; and many other cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her brother, Edward Buttke; her uncles, John and Sonny Bathke; and aunts, Phyllis and Elaine Bathke.

Friends may call on the family at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and at Peace Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Georgia would like to thank Fresenius Medical Care in Neenah, especially Dr. Osaid Ahmad and his entire staff, for their care and support during her seven years of peritoneal dialysis. Thank you also to special friends, Mary Buttke, Sue Sorenson, Mary Ann Wagner, Paula Qualley, Dave and Roxi Lemieux, Susan Caruso, Cheryl Blanchard, Bob and Judy Hergert, and Cath Spiegel for their help and support over the years.
