Joan Ruth Patton passed away in the presence of her loving family on June 10, 2014, at Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh, Bethel Home. Born October 7, 1925 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Ruth (Belle) Shirley and Fred Shirley, she married Roy L. Patton on June 9, 1945, and they moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, shortly thereafter.
Most of her working years were spent at Mercy Hospital as a CNA. She had a strong work ethic and loved her job and her co-workers to the point of returning to work after she retired. Needlepoint, cross stitch, gardening, dogs and reading a good book were her enjoyments, but her real love was shopping and she never tired of heading to Fox River Mall for a day of shopping and lunch.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane Goggins, Diana (Ken) Krukow, Pat (Bob) Shaffer; seven grandchildren , Rob (Katie) Goggins, Scott (Kim) Krukow, Steve (Sandy) Krukow, and Lyn (Jim) Sternat, Sara, Paige and Chris Shaffer and their families; great grandchildren, Anna Sternat, Sydney and Jack Goggins, Kyle, Adam, and Grady Krukow, and Melanie Krukow. She was preceded in death by her husband in May 1984, her two sisters, Dorothy Shirley Hughes, Susan Shirley Tatum, and her brother, William Shirley.
She loved dogs and found special comfort in her last years with Isabelle, who she called "the baby." Isabelle visited her every day, sitting on her lap and giving her kisses.
Private family services were held. Many thanks to the staff of 1 East at Bethel Home and Heartland Hospice for caring for Mom in her final years.
Mom, you were my best friend, we did everything together. You are at peace now and your suffering is over.
