Spurgeon, Rose

Rose K. Spurgeon, nee Sippl, age 96, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. She was born in Oshkosh on January 11, 1918, the daughter of the late Southside, Bohemian immigrants, Karl and Mary (Rekovsky) Sippl. On February 19, 1941 she married Minnesota born, Peter Sontag. God blessed them with six children. He preceded Rose in death on September 27, 1963. On May 22, 1966 she married Gale Spurgeon. He passed away on October 10, 1993. Rose enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, shopping, praying the Rosery, and baking. She will be remembered for the love she had for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

Rose is survived by her children: Nancy (William) Kohls of Neenah, Judith Hanford of Oshkosh, Beverly (Heinz) Habermehl of Oshkosh, Rose (Jim) Ziegenhagen of Franklin; Peter (Barbara) Sontag of Appleton, and Richard (Wendy) Sontag of New Auburn; 13 grandchildren: Richard (Christina) Kohls, Robert (Lori) Kohls, David (Teresa) Kohls, Debra (Junior) Eckstein, Darlene (Brian) Wagner, Elizabeth (David) Pentz, Kim (Paul) Proctor, Dawn (Bill) Hudson, John Ziegenhagen, Michael Sontag, Sandra Sontag, Carina Sontag, and Richard (Wendy) Sontag, Jr.; great-grandchildren: Leah (George) Collier, Heather, Kristin, Alyssa, and Brian Kohls; Devin and Morgan Kohls; Jennifer and Evan Draeger, Matthew and Kalista Eckstein; Kristen Wagner, Matthew and Lindsey Wagner, Alisha, Kaylee and Marissa Proctor; Steven Lee; Jared and Nicole Nikodem; Zachery and Jonathon Sontag; and Savannah Sitter; great great-grandchildren: Alexis and Andrew Eckstein; Bryce and Bryn Draeger; and Eric Collier; with two on the way, one in November and one in December.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, siblings, and son-in-law, Frank Hanford.

According to Rose' wishes, a private interment service will be at Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh.

The family extends a special thank you to the girls at Evergreen on Manorview, especially JoAnne and Betty for their excellent care, and her daughter, Nancy, son, Peter, and two precious granddaughters, Debra and Darlene.

She is clothed with strength and dignity. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed. Proverbs 31: 25-28
