Donald William Mongan

Donald William Mongan, age 65, of Larsen, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at home. He was born October 18, 1948, to the late Clair and June (Peterson) Mongan. Don was a 1966 graduate of Winneconne High School. He served his country in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. For many years Don worked at Bergstrom Paper/P.H. Glatfelter in Neenah until his retirement. After retirement he established A & L Kennels which he has run ever since. Don was an enthusiastic sports fan of the Packers, Brewers and he was always seen wearing his Badgers hat. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and for many years had spent summer vacations with his family fishing in Minnesota. Don especially loved his land and the home he built there in 1989; planting all of the trees, making trails for his grandkids to ride 4-wheelers on, and spending most days taking care of his land, the yard, and the kennel. He truly loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his two daughters, Lisa (Mike) Ellis, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Leslie (Mark) Verkuilen, of Larsen; a step-son, Troy (Lisa) Smith, of Menasha; his grandchildren, Lauren, Mady, and Sydney Ellis, Jordyn and Addison Verkuilen; Camden and Anna-Lynn Smith; Breanna and Katelyn Raab; three sisters, Judy (Robert) Donabar, of Menomonee Falls; Susan (Joe) Mohammed, of Oshkosh; Barbara (Dan) Davis, of Omro; a special friend, Jon Fischer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E. Main St. Winneconne, and will continue on Thursday July 24 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Doug LeCaptain officiating, with military honors to follow. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Poygan.

Don's family would like to acknowledge all of his A & L customers who supported him and became friends through the years. They would like to thank Pam Rozek who helped with his care, and the Aurora VNA staff, especially Stacy and Tammy, for all of the care and support given to him.
