Raymond L. Hoeft, age 94, of Omro, died Saturday afternoon, December 8, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay. Ray was born June 6, 1918, in the Township of Poy Sippi, Wisconsin, the son of George and Bertha (Lane) Hoeft. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran serving in the Atlantic from 1943-1946. He married Arabella "Bobbe" Cotton Enli on June 25, 1949. She preceded him in death. He later married Catherine Marvin on October 21, 1995.
Ray was well known throughout the Omro area and was a respected educator who taught vocational agriculture for 33 years at Omro High School. He served three terms as Omro Mayor from 1990-1996. Ray enjoyed gardening, reading, and sports. He was a graduate of Omro High School and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Ray was very active in the community, his church, and numerous organizations. He was a charter member and past president of the Omro Kiwanis Club, a member of the Safety Harbor (FL) Kiwanis Club, and had been a Lt. Governor for the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District of Kiwanis. He was a member of American Legion Post #234, DAVA Unit 17, and the Navy League. Ray was a 33rd degree Mason, and was Past Worshipful Master for the Omro Masonic Lodge #168, F. & A.M. He was Past Grand High Priest for the Royal Arch Masons of Wisconsin and Past High Priest for the Winnebago Chapter #43 R.A.M. He was a member of numerous other Masonic organizations, including the York Rite, Scottish Rite, Commandry, Red Cross of Constantine, Beja Shrine, Winnebagoland Shrine Club, and Mascoutin Shrine Club. Ray was a past president of the Omro Area Development Corporation. Ray was also a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Omro.
Ray was very much loved and will be missed by wife, Catherine; sons, John Hoeft of Omro and Stuart (Cynthia) Hoeft of Green Bay; daughter-in-law Bernadette Smith of Spencer; grandchildren, Kristine Enli (fiancé Mike Dunkel), Andi Enli (fiancé Andrew Babineau), Bronson (Cindy) Enli, Michele Enli, Nan (John) Sowieja, Eric (Janice) Enli, John (Michelle) Hoeft II, David (Luciana) Hoeft, Amy (Roger) Gould; great grandchildren, Grant, Trent, Alexis, Dakota, Cecilia, Broderick, Zack (Brea), Michala, Jacob, John III, James, Noelle, Sofia, Alexander, Joaquin, Tomás, Paige, Taylor, Olivia; great-great grandson, Carter; step children, Cathy (Jens Carstensen) Karr, Michael (Laurie) Karr, Elizabeth (John) Karr; brothers, Hubert Hoeft, Merlin (Ferne) Hoeft, Robert (Doris) Hoeft; sister, Luella Weller; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Bobbe; children, Darryl Enli, Richard Enli and Sharon Enli; brothers, Donald, Lewis, Norman and Kenneth.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. under the auspices of Omro Lodge #168 F. & A.M. Visitation will then continue on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, 955 N. Webster Ave., Omro, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Travis J. Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in the Borth Cemetery. The family would like to thank Unity Hospice, Angelus Village Assisted Living, Cardinal Ridge Assisted Living, St. Mary's Hospital staff, and Dr. Asiamah. A memorial is being established in Ray's name.
