Taylor, Ruth Louise
The Guest Book is expired.
Ruth Louise (Fischer) Taylor, 94, formerly of rural Redgranite, died peacefully in her sleep, early Saturday morning, Feb. 2, 2013, at Preston Place C.B.R.F. in Redgranite.
She was born April 2, 1918, in Oshkosh, WI, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Wendtland) Fischer. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in Grace Lutheran Church. In 1936, she graduated from Oshkosh High and from Oshkosh Business College in 1937. Ruth worked at Oskosh B'Gosh Overall, until marrying Denis R. Taylor on June 5, 1940.
In 1945, the couple and two children moved to rural Redgranite and began farming near Denis' home farm at Terrill's Corner. Ruth, a city girl, moved to a home with no electricity. With husband's and mother-in-law's help, she eventually "mastered" the wood cook stove. The family moved two miles north in 1953, where they built a house and lived until 2001. Denis preceded her in death on July 31 of that year. After staying with Lynn and Denny the first year, she moved to Preston Place Assisted Living in 2002.
Ruth was involved with her church, Trinity Lutheran Church of Redgranite, with the Ladies Aid, and choir for as long as she was able. She was proud of the many years she was the secretary for the Ladies Aid. Her alto singing may have started when she and her twin sister played the accordion and guitar when they were teenagers. She also helped and did whatever she could with building the new church.
Ruth loved her country home and developed a great love for photography of nature and places they visited. She loved visiting and was very proud of her three sons, when they were each serving their 20 plus years in the Navy, stationed around the world.
Ruth was instrumental in starting a new 4-H and being a leader in 4-H many years. She was active in the County Homemakers.
Survivors include her children, Lynn (Charlotte) Taylor, Tecumseh MO; Darlene (Dale) Hempel, Pine River WI; Chuck (Lynda) Taylor, Redgranite and Zapata TX; and Denis (Hydee), Georgetown KY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, her twin, Audrey Connick and Lois Fischer, both residing at Bethel Lutheran home, Oshkosh; and nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother-in-law Ray Connick.
FUNERAL SERVICES for Ruth will be held on Saturday, FEBRUARY 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Redgranite, with the Rev. Gregory Sluke officiating. (PLEASE NOTE THE DATE OF THE FUNERAL SERVICE.) Following the service, Ruth will be laid to rest beside her husband, Denis, in the Pine River Cemetery.
