Sherburn, Gloria

In Remembrance

Gloria Sherburn, 88, passed peacefully away on Oct. 15, 2013, at Woods Medical Center in LaVerne, Calif., with her family at her side. Gloria was born March 18, 1925, in St. Paul, Minn., but grew up in Strongs Prairie and Oshkosh, Wis. It was in Oshkosh, where Gloria met her love and future husband, Ray Sherburn. They were married 65 years before his passing in 2008.

Gloria and Ray moved to California in 1953 and made a home in Pomona, where they brought up 3 children, Kay, Patti and Scott. She was an active member of Pomona Junior Women's Club, serving as President for a term. It was in Pomona during those years that Gloria opened Gloria's Fashion Shoppe. She found much happiness there, and loved the fine memories of this throughout her life. After selling the shop in the mid 60's, she worked as Buyer for Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, then later worked and ultimately retired as an administrative secretary at San Dimas High school. Over the years and into retirement, Gloria and Ray found much happiness traveling in their motorhomes around the country, visiting family in Wisconsin, fishing and making new friends. They were active in the Pomona and Ontario Elks Clubs. She was also a member of High Nooners through Pomona Assistance League.

Gloria is survived by a sister, Shirley LaBarge, Nekoosa, Wis.; children, Pat Warren (Mark) and Scott Sherburn (Cathe). Her daughter, Kay Schreiner, and Kay's husband, Len, predeceased Gloria by four months. Her eight grandchildren are Michael Schreiner, Steve Schreiner (Denise), Laurie Schreiner Cox (Tony), Todd Ponting (Sarah), Dan Ponting (Karla), Alex Warren, Jade Sherburn, and Ray Sherburn. She also was loved by four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Ruby and Alexis Ponting and Jacob Barragan.

Gloria was a wonderful mother and grandmother, a hard worker, and a fine role model. She was always a happy and gracious hostess, and loved dressing well. She will be deeply missed by her family. However, her last years without her soulmate Ray were very difficult for her, and we are comforted knowing that they are once again together.
