Buchen, Elizabeth "Liz"

Elizabeth "Liz" Buchen, age 98, of Princeton, passed away at her home on Monday, October 28, 2013. She was born on June 6, 1915 in Wautoma, a daughter of Gad and Mary (Milliken) Jones. Liz graduated from Wautoma High School and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in social work. She worked a number of years as a social worker. Elizabeth married Luke Buchen on December 27, 1945 in Princeton. Together they operated Buchen Motors in Princeton. She was very active within the Princeton community, being involved in Progress for Princeton, American Legion Auxiliary and Women's Club. She helped start the well known Saturday flea market, and was one of the original members in the Free Swim Program where she was involved for over 40 years. Liz was a hospice volunteer for many years. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Princeton.

Liz is survived by her son, Paul (Lynn) Buchen of Neshkoro; granddaughter, Emily (fiancee' Caleb Meier) Buchen of Prescott Valley, AZ; sister, Kathryn (Baxter) Newton of Madison; sister-in-law, Mary Brekke and late husband Palmer of Akron, OH; numerous special friends, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Buchen; infant son, Robert Buchen; sister, Harriet (Arthur) Snyder and brothers-in-law, Paul, Ralph, James and John Buchen.

A funeral service for Elizabeth "Liz" Buchen will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m., at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 102 West Harvard St., in Princeton with Rev. Dawn Helton- Anishinaabeqwa officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Princeton.
