Osmus, Gilbert R. "Gib'

Gilbert R. Osmus, "Gib," "Ozzie," age 79 of Hartford, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center, West Bend.

Gilbert was born February 3, 1934, to John and Mary (nee Scheuermann) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He married Barbara Heidl on August 23, 1952, in Fond du Lac, before joining the Air Force and serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Visual Systems Incorporated for many years. He enjoyed baseball, golfing, fishing, hunting, and playing horseshoes. Gib also played the drums and accordion in several country western bands for many years, including "Happy Knights" and "Chuck's Family Three."

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Osmus; loving children, John Osmus of Hartford; Mark (Julie) Osmus of Appleton; and Darcy (Michael) Brown of Hartford; 9 cherished grandchildren, James, Alicia, Troy (Julie), Chad Osmus, Lee, Benjamin, Cody, Brianna, and Julia Thimm; 8 cherished great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Braden, Chase, Dylan, Jordyn, Mia, Aryiana, and Amaya; and his brother, Karl Osmus. Gib is further survived by many nieces and nephews, other dear relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Diane Osmus; his parents, John and Mary Osmus; his brothers, LeRoy and Edwin Osmus; half-siblings, Reinald Osmus, Albert Osmus, Pauline Steinhilber, Victor Osmus, Alvena Gorchels, Alvina Brandt, William Weitz, George Weitz, and Alfred Weitz.

A Memorial Service for Gilbert will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home (824 Union Street, Hartford) with Father David LaPlante officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00p.m. 7:00 p.m.

Interment at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, Oshkosh.

Gilbert's family would like to share their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff and Dr. Paul Bullis at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in West Bend for the wonderful care Gib received and the outpouring support the family has been given.
