1921 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Julia MacAdam Obituary

Julia MacAdam, age 92, passed into God's care, surrounded by the love of her family, on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Arborview Manor in Oshkosh. She was born September 23, 1921 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John and Caroline (Lewis) Schaffer. She married her one true love, Albert (Jack) MacAdam, at the Church of the Little Flower in Hollywood, Florida on April 4, 1943.

Julia was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska until her family moved to the Oshkosh, WI area in the early 1930's to work the beet fields. She began working and training to become a nurse with the nun's at Mercy Hospital in the mid 1930's and there began her lifelong legacy, as an LPN, of caring for and sharing with others. Julia and Jack thoroughly enjoyed raising their six children and numerous foster children in their home on Hickory Lane, on the beautiful shores of Lake Winnebago. She always had an "open door policy" for anyone in any kind of need. Julia gave of herself completely to family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

In her retirement years, her greatest days of joy were spent walking the shores of the Padre Islands in Texas, and then hiking the forests and fishing the streams and lakes of Colorado. She loved watching the wildlife (mostly herds of elk) and the antics of the hundreds of hummingbirds from the porch of her home, in Cedaredge, Colorado. Julia moved back to Wisconsin after the death of her husband in the late 1990's. She has enjoyed homes in Neillsville and Oshkosh since that time.

Julia is survived by her son, Clarence John (Jack) MacAdam of Augusta, Georgia; daughters, Julie (Jim) Brooks of Oshkosh; Darlene (Gerry Rodday) Barrailler of Oak Harbor, WA; Mary (Lavere Ehlers) Bruflat of Neillsville, WI and June (Fred Kubasta) MacAdam of Oshkosh, WI. She is further survived by her brother, Harold Schaffer of Oshkosh; and sister, Nellie Elendt of DePere, WI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; brothers, John and Leon; sister, Isabel; sons, Dick and Steve; grandchildren, Simon, Richard, Ben and Jill.

A "Celebration of Life" Mass will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church (St. Mary's), 605 Merritt Ave., Oshkosh. Father James Jugenheimer will officiate, visitation will occur from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., and Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. Julia had requested that instead of flowers, donations may be made to any homeless shelters/homeless service organizations in your area, in Julia's name.

Julia's family would like to send out a special thank you for the loving care that Julia received from the staff at Arborview Manor and Heartland Hospice. Julia loved her caregivers as if they were family. Their kind, gentle ways with her will always be appreciated. A special appreciation and thank you to Chris from hospice. Julia always looked forward to her frequent visits to provide personal care and read to her.
