Simonis, Albert David (Al)

Albert David (Al) Simonis, 62, of Ripon and Berlin died unexpectedly on Friday March 14, 2014, at his home of a massive stroke.

He was born on November 2, 1951, in New London, the son of Leonard David and Clara Agnes (Zwicki) Simonis.

He was a graduate of the Ripon High School.

He married Teresa (Wolff) on January 12, 1998, in Ripon.

Al was a self-employed specialty log home builder and sawmill operator (S and S-Sawmill) along with his son, Aaron and other family help.

His hobbies included elk and deer hunting, both, bow and gun, the outdoors, fishing, cooking and baking his famous pies, campfires, gardening, canoeing, and in his younger years he took state in track and field for four years, loved tractor pulling and working on the farm, and especially shooting trap.

He is a lifetime member of the Berlin Conservation Club of which he and his son devoted and volunteered their time on many projects.

He is a former member of Saint Catherine of Sienna Catholic Parish of Ripon, A member of the Berlin Bugle Mouth Bass Association, Knights of Columbus of Ripon and the Berlin Conservation Club.

Al will be long remembered and missed when thinking of his famous phrases, "can't fix stupid", "some peoples kids"., and "think about it".

Survivors include his wife, Teresa; children, Daric Simonis of Peoria, Ill.; Angie (Jim) Joner of Yacolt, Wash.; Christy (Ben) Finley of Yacolt, Wash.; Adam (Sara) Simonis of Ripon; Aaron (LaRea) Simonis of Berlin; Ryan (Jamie) Ward of Berlin; Ammanda (Mike) Ward of Berlin; Albert S. Simonis of Berlin; and Katie (Art) Lund of Ripon.

He is further survived by his sisters, Carolyn (Bob) Galvin of Shawano; Lucy (Dave) Block of Ripon; Lillian Ratz of Ripon; and Sue (Lee) Soda of Ripon; 17 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Henry; mother-in-law, Vernice Wolff; sister-in-law, Virginia Wirkus; and a brother-in-law, Ray Wolff.

Funeral services with the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin, with the Rev. Jerome Maksvytis officiating and burial will take place in the Saint Patrick' Cemetery of Ripon at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family and pay their respects to Al at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of downtown Berlin on Wednesday (TODAY) March 19, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday at the Funeral Home from 9 to 10 a.m., before we leave for the services at the church.

A memorial has been established in his memory to the Berlin Conservation Club.
