NEWTON, Muriel  
NEWTON, Muriel Mary Dec. 6, 1917 - March 1, 2015 Muriel passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on March 1,2015 at the age of 97. She was born in Portsmouth England and was predeceased by her brother, Alan Goodger, her first husband, James Child, and her second husband Alex David Newton. Muriel worked for many years for BOAC as the secretary to the Cargo Manager, and later as a secretary to a Director. After marrying David Newton in 1975, she immigrated to Vancouver to become part of David's Canadian family. Over the years, Muriel made many lifelong friends and was a volunteer with the Mission to Seamen, Meals on Wheels, and a member of the A.C.W. She was a devoted member of St. Timothy's Church, where she attended services regularly. She had an incredible memory, and always showed great interest and caring for the people she loved. She loved spending holiday time travelling and showing her visitors from the U.K. the beauty of B.C. Some of her favorite times were spent boating with Carol & Barry thru the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound and Princess Louisa Inlet. She enjoyed following the Canucks, Whitecaps, playing cards and going to the casino for a little flutter with her dear friends Jean and Judy. As her eyesight failed she enjoyed listening to her audio books and visits from family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her English family, son Roger (Lynda) Child, grandchildren Karen, Matthew, Rachel & Samantha, great-grandchildren Amber, Ben & Mady. Her Canadian family, stepdaughters Susan (Keith) Hillman of West Vancouver, Carol(Barry) Anderson of North Vancouver, grandchildren, Christy(Darin) Mahoney & Paul(Alison)Anderson, great grandchildren, Cameron & Kayla Mahoney, and Logan & Calum Anderson, all of North Vancouver. A Memorial Service will be held with reception to follow at St. Timothy's Church (Sutherland Church) 630 East 19th Street, North Vancouver at 1:00 pm. on March 27,2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aunt Leah's Place or the Alzheimer's Society.
