Dec 9, 1930 - Dec 4, 2012
IOANNOU, Dorothy (Dot) - Born in Australia in 1930, Dot passed away peacefully on December 4, 2012. She was predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Kon; her brother, Grahame, her sisters-in-law Helen, Eugenia, Mimi, and Florence; and her brothers-in-law Wallace, Bill, and Harry. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Greg (Anne) and Tony; her sister; Joy; her grandchildren, Seth and Leah; her numerous nieces and nephews, especially Elizabeth (Spiro) and family; and her many friends. Dot will long be remembered by family and friends in Australia and Canada for her sense of humour, warmth, thoughtfulness, and careful attention to detail. In Australia, she worked in clothing sales and trained as a bookkeeper. When she moved to Canada in 1973, she started a long, successful career as a bookkeeper, and loved to tell about how her careful attention to detail uncovered a major fraud for one employer. (Of course, she was too professional to ever reveal the confidential details.) When she retired, she spent her time creating one of North Vancouver's most beautiful gardens, and caring for her beloved Kon in his declining years. Our whole family would like to give special thanks to Dr Anna Tinker in particular, and to the entire staff at the BC Cancer Agency for their outstanding and very compassionate care, and to the doctors, nurses and staff on the 4th floor of the Pattison Pavilion at Vancouver General Hospital, who looked after Dot (and her family and friends) so thoughtfully in her last days. By Dot's request, there will be no service, but she would have been delighted if people would remember to plant a flower in her memory next spring.
